President Muhammadu Buhari’s few months in office, have restored hope and recognition for Nigeria, Senator Abu Ibrahim said yesterday.
He said the President within a short time, has turned around major sectors of the economy. Ibrahim a senator from Katsina State on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, spoke with journalists in Abuja yesterday.
According to him, the administration of President Buhari “has recorded a huge success by ensuring stability in the power sector, reducing the threat of Boko Haram insurgency to a minimum level, bailout of states owing salaries and an overhaul of the Federal Civil Service”.
“Because of Mr. President’s reforms, the international community has now come back to terms with Nigeria, the cooperation is gradually erasing Nigeria’s name from the bad record of corruption.
“Before, if you travelled abroad the people will be looking at you as if you are an arm robber, but now, they are willing to transact business with any Nigerian because of the short period of President Buhari’s administration”.
He also commended the president for the Treasury Single Account,TSA, saying it’s a welcome development that would help grow the economy of the nation and stabilise it.
He, however, regretted that the reforms may cause loss of jobs and a shortterm hardship, but would finally lead to stability and development in the country.
“Any way, people will suffer it for the time been and some will lose their jobs, but the country will move forward for the permanent stability of the economy because all the loopholes will be blocked, there will be no leakages again,” he said.
He further said agricultural, human and mineral resources that are abundant in the country, would be attended to, to give the country an accelerated growth. He said agriculture in Nigeria will create job opportunities and serve as a viable complement to crude oil.
“So unless and until we go back to agriculture to supplement the effort of agriculture in this country, we will not move forward,” he concluded.
